2017 Submissions open in January!

That's a Wrap!

December 5, 2016 – Buffalo, NYThe Buffalo International Film Festival (BIFF) wrapped up its 10th anniversary this past October and is proud to declare another record in turnout. Overall festival attendance increased from 2015 by 30% and passholder attendance increased by 400% with a total of more than 1,500 attendees from WNY and abroad. The large spike in use of festival passes is attributed to BIFF launching The Bison Pass, which allowed for patrons to watch unlimited movies for four days for the low price of only $35. “With the huge success of the Bison Pass we definitely plan to bring it back for our 2017 Festival,” said Executive Director Raymond Guarnieri.

Another noteworthy characteristic of this year’s festivities was the large increase in filmmakers from WNY and around the world who travelled to The City of Light to present their works and participate in audience Q&A’s. With over 100 industry professionals in attendance, BIFF boasted its biggest filmmaker turnout yet and was overwhelmed with positive feedback. Filmmaker Gabrielle Burton, director of the documentary Kings Queens and In-Betweens, which screened at The North Park Theatre on October 9th, praised the festival and its leadership, “The heads of BIFF were excellent — efficient, thoughtful, appreciating film and filmmakers. They have an elegant and ambitious vision for the festival and they are passionate about film both as an art and as a gathering point for community.” Filmmakers who travelled to Buffalo from New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Cleveland, Montreal, Dublin, London, Toronto, Austin and more shared similar feedback.

Festival staff is now kicking into high gear as fundraising season begins. “We keep setting the bar higher and higher for ourselves, which means we need more community support to ensure the services we’re providing to the WNY film-arts community are sustainable,” said Executive Director Guarnieri. BIFF is now accepting donations on its website which are up-to 100% tax deductible through its 501(c)3 non-profit status. WNY's Premiere Celebration of the Moving Image

In its tenth year, BIFF champions local, national, and international films that test the limits of independent cinema. BIFF presents WNY residents and visitors with juried films of diverse perspectives from around the world. A proud supporter of local filmmaking, BIFF offers workshops, seminar, industry panel discussions and fiscal sponsorship opportunities on a year-round basis.

As Buffalo continues to be a place for artists to grow and thrive, those behind the curtains of BIFF clearly intend to remain a vibrant part of the process, year in and year out.
